Agostino Rocco
|
Agostino Rocco is a painter using photographic techniques in order to talk about himself and of friendly faces, heroes, and fictional characters from a very unsual point of view. His works are elaborate, rich, and very edited. “Photo editing – writes Rocco – allows me to keep exploring what really is my first and only interest: that for refined, stage-like images, which I derived of course from the great painting of past centuries”. All works by Agostino Rocco have a degree of depth and complexity which demand a certain degree of effort to be fully appreciated: looking at the stories unfolding in his carefully constructed images, you soon or later realize that they are not at all glamourous works. The wave of nostalgia and of tired ennui which lingers in his XVIIth-century atmosphere, must not deceive: Agostino Rocco is a completely postmodern artist. He is so much so, that he affords himself a virtually unlimited freedom, and he uses any material he likes, using history of art as well as contemporary research. |
