Alessandro Bellucco
|
The only subject in the paintings of Alessandro Bellucco is body, or rather corporeity. With an almost maniacal attention to detail, Bellucco prevents us the possibility of holding a dialogue with his subjects. Either because the human masks he portrays are condemned to a neurotic rituals, or because his gaze has isolated only a fragment of flesh, or more radically because the heads of his models lie outside the frame or are decapitated. Piera Peri, who curated a one-man show of Bellucco’s work, ‘Essitam’ at the Galleria Marconi in October 2007 wrote: “Flaccid, contorted human bodies, disfigured by vices, which offer themselves immodestly to the gaze of the observer, dissected or in their flagrant wholeness”.
