Andrea Contin, an artist for whom the adjective "irreverent" sounds empty and trite, creates objects, installations and conceptual performances that are rigorous and ironic. In his work, Contin combines a powerful physical presence with an entertaining and provocative use of his body. With lightness and profundity, he is not shy of touching on themes and archetypes underlying existence, such as death and struggle, whether this be ritual or for survival. The growing interest for his works is witnessed by the purchase in 2007 of one of his videos by the Italian Institute of Culture il Belgrade, and most of all by his presence in the top 100 list of young artists "Young critics vote young artists" published in 2008 by the Flash Art magazine. |
