Stefano Bolcato

Puppets, lego bricks and slices of rubber cities are watching us, from the multicoloured whirl of Stafano Bolcato’s canvases. Appearence has never been more deceptive: behind the smiles and the cool reflections of this very technical Roman painter, a hard reality can be perceived, as well as an extraordinary skill at using the familiar and the magnifying glass in order to achieve a perturbing and metaphysical effect.

The scenes painted by Bolcato are titled “Domenica”, “Le faremo sapere”, “Accordo”: a parallel realism, in which one has the feeling of being a Sims character, or an ant in an online simulation (significantly enough, one of Bolcato’s last works is called “Google Earth”). The spectator is always involved, also for compositive reasons, such as the close and cinematographic slant of the foregrounds.

Stefano Bolcato’s works featured in many personal and collective exhibitions; moreover, he was awarded many prizes, the last of them being the Premio Arte Mondadori 2008. He has recently been awarded a Special Prize at the Premio Artemisia 2008.
