Stefano Cagol

Stefano Cagol ranks 26th in the best Italian artists list published at the beginning of 2008 by the FlashArt magazine. He recently flew to New York where the Priska Juschka Fine Art displays his solo work "Guinea Pig".

Since the 90s, video and photography have been used by Cagol as a tool to manipulate reality, and to question the laws by which we perceive images and forms. Cagol has been one of the first Italian artists to adopt advanced video techniques such as frame splitting and timeflow stretching.

Later Cagol started adding performances and public art installations to his video works, while at the same time putting more emphasis on social and political thems. Stefano Cagol is however very careful never to employ anything which could resemble an ideological approach. These more recent works bear titles such as “Entropy”, “Disintegration”, “Atomicwerk”, up to the “Flu” series, which originates from a reflection on the global fears associated with the bird flu.
