Marco Demis in the solo exhibition "Altari"
21/03/11 The exhibition is a collection of a cycle of recent works with the recurring theme of aristocratic virgins with nivea skin and elegant retro clothes.
Demis’ art is not one which revolves around identity - as his dolls are lacking identity – and does not even revolve around seriality. His works conduct the function of simulacra, idols that do not allude to a further meaning.
Baudrillard defines the simulacrum (eidolon) a “truth that hides the fact that it doesn’t have any". Demis speaks of his dolls as “intimate fixity, lacking a referent”.
The exhibition is on until 25th May 2011 at gallery GiaMaArt studio, via Iadonisi 14, 82038 Vituliano.
