The 35th edition of Arte Fiera Art First will take place from 28th to 31st January 2011 in Bologna. Throughout the years this event has asserted itself as the most important modern and contemporary art fair in Italy.

The quality of the fair has been constantly improving, thanks to an accurate selection of the involved galleries and to the organisation of several cultural events linked to the fair itself.

This year Arte Fiera Art First will welcome more than 200 galleries, as well as hosting many events such as the Premio Euromobil and the Premio Furla (both dedicated to emergent young artists), and the 6th edition of Bologna Art First, featuring the exhibition "Se un giorno d'inverno un viaggiatore", curated by Julia Draganovic.

Don't miss the September issue of the magazine AD! It features an article dedicated to Smartarea, showing many works by our artists such as Abbiati, Bolcato, Chiesi and Cuoghi.

The article is written by Mario Gerosa, who in the following excerpt states: "In the last years a new contemporary art market asserted itself, a market made of young collectors looking for young art. Smartarea, the first Italian gallery to operate on the web, meets these new needs, by using all the potentialities of the Internet: the website itself, in which artworks are exhibited; Twitter, where artists talk about themselves and their works, YouTube, which hosts the Smartarea TV Channel. Founded in 2008, Smartarea tends to favour young Italian and international artists".

Smartarea chose to mark the publication of this article by widening its collection of artworks, which can be viewed on the gallery website. There are Stefano Abbiati's works, Stafano Bolcato's trademark Lego, Andrea Chiesi's stylistic perfection and Vanni Cuoghi's funny canvas, which are emblematic of his inexhaustible fantasy.

Shanghai hosts the 4th edition of ShContemporary

From the 9^th to the 12^th September 2010 the Shanghai Exibition Centre will welcome the ShContemporary 2010, one of the most important fairs on the scene of Asian contemporary art.

This edition of the event, in which a large selection of Asian and international galleries will take part, is focused on the theme of the relation between artistic value and commercial value. This topic highlights the difficulty of giving a precise price to art, whose meaning, on the contrary, is neither clearly defined nor easily accessible. The theme, which is of great interest not only for artists, but also for curators, art dealers and collectors, is dealt with in the exhibition “Re-Value”, curated by Mami Kataoka, Manray Hsu and Colin Chinnery.

ArteFiera Bologna 2010

È giunta alla 34ima edizione la principale fiera d'arte italiana che si svolgerà a Bologna dal 29 al 31 gennaio 2010, sempre più focalizzata sulla promozione dell'arte italiana, dagli inizi del novecento fino ai movimenti contemporanei.

Tra gli espositori partecipanti ad Arte Fiera, anche 24 giovani gallerie, a conferma della vitalità che continua a caratterizzare il mercato dell'arte italiano e internazionale.

Numerosi sono gli eventi collaterali che affiancheranno Arte Fiera: Bologna Art First, unprogetto concepito per la prima volta come un'unica grande mostra collettiva che presenta un serie di installazioni di artisti che lavorano con le gallerie partecipanti; Arte Fiera Off, un calendario che include mostre, concerti e festival che coinvolgeranno non solo la città di Bologna ma tutta l'Emilia Romagna: da citare la permanente al Museo Morandi dedicata all'artista e al MAMBO una mostra su Gilberto Zorio.

Per finire l'Art White Night, la suggestiva notte bianca bolognese del 30 gennaio che trasforma il centro storico in una grande vetrina dell'arte contemporanea.

Art sales rising in Italy

The "Milano Finanza" newspaper quotes the Nomisma research group and Luca Cordero di Montezemolo to estimate the state of the art market in Italy.

Investors are rising. An average art collection multiplies its value by five times as more as an average flat.

Nomisma estimates art sales throughout Italy to top 600 millions Euro. Painting eats 46% of the market, while sculptures have a 30% share, and drawings 15%. Photographic works are gaining attention. "Betting on young artists may be a risk but then again it can be a source of great satisfactions" - says Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, president of Confindustria, the industrials union. "Art is valued more during troubled times".
